HISTORY
For the past 39 years, the Malnati family has hosted an annual one-day charity event. Lou and Jean Malnati first started the event as a scholarship fund for local athletes to Wake Forest University in the name of Brian Piccolo, and after Lou died of cancer in 1978, Jean carried on the annual tradition in Lou's name and the focus was changed to raising money for cancer research.
Last year the benefit raised more than $160,000, and in the past 10 years it has raised more than $3 million to benefit organizations such as Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Gilda's Club of Chicago, and Children's Memorial Hospital which are dedicated to finding a cure for cancer.
